It uses a new campus building typology of student housing, academic faculties, informal learning, athletics, collegium and an art gallery within three building sites. "This innovative hub strategy aims to create a more vibrant, diverse campus by transforming UBC from a single, primary-use campus core for study to one with hubs with a full range of uses: study, work, live and play." Located in the centre of campus, the residence spaces in Ponderosa Commons are open to second year students and above, and are split into three houses: Maple, Arbutus and Spruce "Ponderosa Commons is designed to bring life to the campus core 12 months a year," concludes Joe Stott, director of planning with Campus and Community Planning at UBC. "The social spaces established in Ponderosa will create a hub of activity and contribute to a stronger sense of community on campus." n december 2013 /59 13-11-15 3:58 PM
