The Burnaby Board of Trade has been a part of this city for over a hundred years, and in that time we have established ourselves as much more than just Burnaby's economic development agency. We have cultivated a triple bottom line philosophy, and we work daily with partners from every segment of the community to come up with innovative and progressive ideas for the benefit of our membership and every citizen who calls Burnaby home. Through our several committees we challenge ourselves and our membership to consider the bigger picture. We build the business case through well-considered research, demonstrating how issues of social and environmental sustainability directly influence economic prosperity. Our end goal is to equip Burnaby businesses with every competitive advantage possible, so that they are well prepared to face the challenges and uncertainty of a changing economic landscape. The recent addition of our new Economic Development Committee will allow us to look at economic issues on a broader scale, while leveraging partnerships to address specific areas of concern, and bring insight, awareness and action to issues important to our business community. Of course, along with our ambitious advocacy efforts, we must never forget our commitment to creating true value for our membership. Our organizational focus continues to be providing engagement and networking opportunities along with important benefits and services to the 1,000+ businesses and organizations we represent. Our end goal is to equip Burnaby businesses with every competitive advantage possible, so that they are well prepared to face the challenges and uncertainty of a changing economic landscape. I am truly proud of the tireless effort our staff puts forth, under the leadership of President and CEO Paul Holden, to ensure the Burnaby Board of Trade lives up to its reputation as a first-class business association. Looking ahead, we remain dedicated to offering innovative benefits and services that provide individual businesses with the tools they need to be successful. We will attract new entrepreneurs from a wider range of businesses to make us stronger, and we will work always towards a bright and prosperous future. To all our community partners, the City of Burnaby, and most of all our amazing members, thank you for making Burnaby such a wonderful place to work and do business.
