Retro Tiki Smitten Events had fun with their theme, but took it from the usual tropical-kitsch look to downright island-elegant. Ivory linen tablecloths and seat cushion pads act as a canvas, topped with raffia placemats, gold chargers, antique china with gold trim, coral napkins with fringed edges, gold flatware and vintage glassware. Bamboo place cards, paper cocktail umbrellas, a table runner in a Hawaiian print fabric, tropical flowers and a vintage bar cart make for ideal accents. EdgeCeptional Catering chose a classic Hawaiian cocktail, the Mai Tai, to be served with a selection of pupus like ahi tuna poke, chicken drumettes in kung pao sauce, bacon cups with a honeysoy scallop, avocado and Bibb lettuce.
