Thai life Beachside luxury is the order of the day at the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui. destination + honeymoon From bustling cities to tranquil beaches, Thailand offers an exotic honeymoon escape By Lauren Kramer There's something undeniably exotic about Thailand, a country whose rich culture you can see, hear and inhale on just about every street corner. A 16-hour flight from Vancouver via Hong Kong, it's an amazing destination for a honeymoon — one that will whet your thirst for Asian travel and leave you with a deep appreciation for the Thai way of life. We start our adventure in Bangkok, a city 86 p86-89_Thailand.indd 86 teeming with people and activity. Checking into the Tower Club at Lebua, just steps from the Chao-Phraya River, we enjoy a bird's-eye view from our spacious 57th-floor balcony. Traditional khlong boats troll the river, moving goods and passengers between the different piers. The decorative architecture of nearby Buddhist temples is interspersed between the mass of skyscrapers and hotels in the Silom district and the wonderfully pervasive heat is indeed a constant reminder that we are far from home. Later, we explore the city, spending hours at the Chatuchak Weekend Market, a warren densely populated with vendors selling everything imaginable, from silk table runners to star fruit, incense, shoes and clothing. When we need a break, we feast on fresh coconuts from street vendors, stopping for a quick reprieve before we venture back into this maze of retail bliss.
