Movie Time Planning to capture your big day on video? We asked Vancouver videographer Desmond Chen of RF Weddings what five top things a couple should look for in choosing a videographer: 1. KNOW THE SHOOTING STYLE. Do you want to feel like a celebrity or would you be more comfortable remaining unaware of your day being documented? "Some companies like to be up close and personal with their lens, sometimes even staging things for the perfect shot," says Chen. "Others like to hide away in the background, quietly capturing candid moments as everyone goes about their business uninterrupted." 2. CHECK FOR COMPATIBILITY. "It's important to know how the videographers are going to interact with the photographers and other vendors you're looking at. Be certain that you've chosen both videography and photography knowing they'll be working closely together all day." 3. ENSURE CONSISTENCY. "Some videographers have incredible-looking demo reels, but you want to be careful that these aren't just standouts among their work but rather an accurate representation of what they bring to each and every wedding. Check out some of their other videos to give yourself a better taste of what they offer." 4. GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. "Generally, the price is often a direct reflection of the quality. Videography is as much a skill as photography, and the misconception is sometimes that photography is more artistic, should have more money spent on it. Videographers bring in elements like sound and motion to capture moments in a cinematic way that can last forever." 5. MEET THE TEAM. "Wedding videography is an intense job where inexperience can be the difference between a perfectly captured first kiss and missing the moment altogether. If you're seriously considering the investment, meet with the videographers before you hire them and look for a team who knows weddings and has a passion for working with wonderful couples." real weddings.ca p22-27_Photographer.indd 25 25 13-09-23 10:56 AM
