The Terrazzo Tile & Marble Association of Canada (TTMAC) is pleased to launch the new 09 30 00 Tile Guide Master Specification, found in the significantly revamped and newly revised 09 30 00 Tile Installation Manual. "This section was completed by master specification writer, Keith Robinson from Edmonton, Alberta, who is with DIALOG," says Dale Kempster, chairperson of the TTMAC specifications and technical research committee. He says one of the key changes is the removal of certain standards. "The one that really had some huge implications for us is the removal of the CGSB (Canadian Government Standards Board) standard 75.1-M88," says Kempster. "This was last revised in 1988 and was so old and irrelevant that they had it withdrawn. By doing that we were left in limbo. That has now been replaced with ISO standards, or we are referring to ANSI (American National Standards Institute) to replace what was taken out of the old CGSB standard." One of the key standards for TTMAC is the test method for measuring slip resistance. "The ASTM [American Society of Testing Methods] C1028 was called the static coefficient of friction test," says Kempster. "That has been replaced by the ANSI A137.1,which uses New Specifications the BOT-3000 digital tribo metre. This means that all the tiles in North America that are imported and manufactured are using this test, so this measurement has really become standardized. We also revised the section for LEED qualifications relevant to the tile industry." Adhesives, Underlayment & Drains MAPEI Inc.'s new Mapesonic 2, with a patent-pending design, delivers stateof-the-art sound-reduction performance with lighter weight and thickness. "This product has next-generation technology that incorporates sound reduction Glass Horizons from Daltile of Canada Inc. and crack isolation," says J.D. Eckmire, joist. Having the offset gives more allowance to accommodate director of sales, Western Canada. "It is a peel-and-stick membrane system for use under tile, stone the situation, depending on the position of the joist under the and wood floors. This has been well received by the industry subfloor." The second area where Schluter has added to the line drain and due to its high Delta rating, condo stratas will be very interested in this new product." Mapesonic 2 also qualifies is length. "We initially went to 1,200 mm and found there was a lot of demand for longer length," says Kempster. "We have for up to two LEED points for recycled content. Mapesonic 2 is ideal for sound reduction in both residen- now extended the line drain from 1300 mm to a maximum of tial and light commercial environments. It provides reduced 1800 mm. The Kerdi-Line Drain is ideal for barrier-free applicaThe Kerdi-Line drain selection from Schluter-Systems has been extended to have an offset model. "Previously, the drain tions. "People position these drains either in the doorway, the outlet was always centred," says Dale Kempster, technical middle or by the wall, but the big advantage is a one- or twodirector, Canada. "Now they have an offset of approximately way slope. This will allow installers to use large format tiles 150 mm. The main reason for this is in dealing with residen- or mosaics. Sometimes, with barrier free applications, water tial woodframe construction, there were several occasions may be drawn into the main part of the bathroom, so a second where having the drain outlet centred would hit right onto a Kerdi-Line Drain can be installed." n www.ampcografix.com Tiles p24-29Tiles.indd 29 october 2013 /29 13-09-13 3:38 PM
