in commercial applications. "The recon igured designs offer a seemingly endless opportunity for creativity as hard and soft surfaces are matched and intermingled," says Rick Moffatt, creative director/president. "With the same height in both surfaces no transition piece is required." The Loose Lay format also provides ease of application over raised access looring, a take-along solution for temporary spaces and an opportunity to recon igure or re-purpose. As adhesive is not required in the installation, it reduces labour costs and environmental impact. The tile can be applied directly to the sub loor straight from the box. "With a textured backing for grip, LSI Loose Lay stays in place," says Moffatt. "Refurbishment projects are not consumed with costly loor preparation or adhesive. Simply install the tile end to end and replace the furniture." LSI Loose Lay carries all the stand properties found in the LSI tiles and planks. The product remains anti-microbial, anti-bacterial and anti-fungus. No waxing or polishing is required to maintain the looring. For its 2012 product line, nora systems, Inc. has introduced noraplan® unita, a unique rubber loor covering that integrates real granite chips into the looring. "With noraplan unita, facilities now have a loor covering that visually resembles concrete, yet offers the durability and performance of rubber," says Amy Bostock, manager, marketing and creative services. "The loor's sophisticated design will complement a variety of architectural designs, especially those that feature glass, steel and concrete." noraplan unita offers 16 different colourways, named after mountain peaks and ranges worldwide, that comprise the natural colour palette that supports the design effect. While each colour incorporates real granite chips, four colourways feature a stunning glitter effect to distinguish the new design. "It's all about balance with noraplan unita," says Bostock. "The new loor can be utilized in a variety of areas – especially public areas like lobbies – to achieve a sophisticated visual esthetic while offering the high performance and durability these areas require." noraplan unita is available in two-millimetre rolls and is Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certi ied for Children and Schools. Dino lex Group continues to see its recycled rubber looring products used in a variety of industries. "While rubber looring has been available in the sports industry for years, this product is growing in the commercial sector for uses in museums, banks, schools and health-care environments," says Cara Murphy, marketing manager. "Of ices and retail spaces are also using rubber looring for its low life- cycle costs. Maintenance is expensive for products like tiles and hardwoods, while rubber requires simple upkeep." One standout product for Dino lex is the Evolution rubber tile. "This is our top commercial line which had 40 colours added last year," says Murphy. "Evolution is a combination of two materials – SBR, which is made from recycled passenger tires and EPDM, which is coloured granules made from a combination of synthetic and natural rubber. These granules are added to the SBR, which itself is totally black in colour. This creates an array of colours to choose from, from black with speckles to full-colour loors." Coordinating colours for interior design is easy with the Evolution tiles. "EPDM can be produced in any colour and it's interesting to see the combinations designers create. We're very proud of the quality of our products and manufacturing processes." Dino lex also recently went through the Climate Smart Program, con irming the company is taking initiatives to lessen its carbon footprint as a manufacturer.
