Appliances, B.C., has seen a tremendous growth in the industry. "One of the noticeable changes recently is the popularity of lush surfaces between appliances and cabinets, particularly in the kitchen," he says. "Counter-depth fridges can accommodate this growing choice. These units are somewhat wider than standard fridges to match the volume needed, but from a design point of view, the lat installation is very appealing." Available in standard colours, including stainless steel, designers for mid- to high-end homes are adding these counter-depth fridges to specs more often. Also with new fridge choices, French doors are at the top of the list. "French doors in fridges work very well in this market where homes, particularly condos, are smaller," says Broderick. "Many kitchens do not have the luxury of space for a wide refrigerator door to swing open, particularly if the kitchen has an island. With the French doors the interior space is the same, but access is easier." Adding to the convenience factor in refrigeration choices is the bottom freezer. "The bottom freezer style with a single refrigerator door has always been popular, but recently we've noticed the French door fridges with bottom freezers are really resonating with consumers," says Broderick. The world of refrigeration has made signi icant changes in recent years, partly due to size constraints of downsized condo or apartment living, but also for style. "Marvel has been a pioneer in the premium undercounter refrigeration market since 1932. These new products and their unique storage features re lect our dedication to adding value and enhancing customer enjoyment wherever possible," says Art Bochert, vice president, sales and marketing. The New Marvel 6GARM Undercounter Glass Door Refrigerator is three appliances in one – beverage centre, refrigerator and wine cooler. The 6GARM is ef icient and quiet, and uses forced-air technology to provide a perfect environment to store foods and beverages. The Undercounter Refrigerated Drawers feature soft-close drawer glides that pull drawers closed and prevent slamming. The air-circulation system is engineered to eliminate cold spots and keep food at ideal temperatures. Marvel's Beer Dispensers bring versatility to the product category. "Two unique stow-on-board shelves allow conversion to a full refrigerator, and when storing half-barrels, the top shelf stays in the unit to accommodate food, beverages or frosted mugs," says Bochert. "The closed door assist hinging system keeps the door closed for ef iciency and temperature control." Two years ago, Amiel Distributions Ltd. introduced the name Fhiaba to the North American market. The company brought the luxury refrigeration unit to the Montreal Design Show to give designers a peek at a product that wasn't available outside of Europe. "The response was overwhelming," says Anthony Amiel, director of marketing and business development. "I was very disappointed that I could not take orders that day, but we were able to ful ill the requests by summer 2011." The Fhiaba units are the epitome in luxury refrigeration. Con igurations are available in 24 inch, 30 inch and 36 inch – all standard sizes. These can be set up as a fridge or wine cellar, with stainless steel doors, panel doors, glass doors or a combination of styles. The bottom drawers can set up with one or two, and at the push of a button, these can be a refrigeration unit, a freezer or a fresco zone a setting at one or two degrees Celsius, just before freezing to keep vegetables crisp and sushi-grade ish and meats fresh longer. If you want one drawer to be used as a freezer for a speci ic time, but have guests coming over and want to put fresh canapés or other items away for a short time, it's just a matter of pushing a button and the temperature changes within minutes. Euro-Line Appliances Inc. is celebrating 25 years as the Canadian distributor of AEG appliances. "I speci ically chose AEG as a brand to anchor my business on because of its German engineering, and European construction and design," says Doug Eglington, president. "They are top-notch appliances, and this next generation of ovens is indicative of AEG's ongoing pursuit of excellence in appliance manufacturing." The AEG KS71000M Steam Oven is one of several new builtin ovens now available in Canada. At only 24 inches in width, the oven offers an impressive 35-litre internal capacity. This versatile and compact appliance also features antiingerprint stainless steel, an LED display and a panoramic view window. ■ RITZ Metal 2000 Inc. 42 Voyager Court North Toronto, Ontario Tel: 416-644-0220 Fax: 416-644-2028 www.ritzmetal.ca info@ritzmetal.ca Appliances p.42-45Appliances.indd 45 FEBRUARY 2012 /45 1/26/12 12:52:53 PM
