W edding planning is a process that usually unfolds over the course of a year. When planner Lori Fraser of Lori L Fraser Signature Events took on the wedding of Kavita Algu and Dallas Duncan, she had half that time to execute the vision of a largely absentee couple. Kavita and Dallas were in their final year of medical school at the University of British Columbia. Spring 2011 would bring several significant commitments, not the least of which were final exams in May. "We also had to tour the country for three weeks to set up medical residencies," says Dallas. "As well, we were going to South Africa for a month-long medical rotation that we'd set-up the year before." They'd gotten engaged in December 2010 and wanted to marry in Vancouver before their residencies began. They assumed that it would have been easier to plan while they were still in Vancouver than it would have been to plan from a distant location. Top: Kavita wore a Romona Keveza A-line silk dress with a sweetheart neckline. Her best friend helped her dress. The flower and feather hairpiece is by local designer Alice Hart. Middle: A profusion of blue hydrangeas and purple roses around the ceremony arch helped to create the intimate, romantic feel Kavita and Dallas envisioned. Bottom left: Dallas' father officiated the ceremony. Having family involved helped make the ceremony feel special. Bottom right: The wedding party included siblings and a best friend, and all shared the duties of best man and maid of honour. 66 RW21_part 1.indd 66 r ea l weddings 9/19/11 3:25:59 PM
