He advises how to n ensure your wedding 'do won't become a don't. Bridal musts for lovely locks BEAUTY EDITOR KATE MACLENNAN What do you consider when designing a 2 wedding look? 3 1 "First, the bride, who she is and what she's comfortable with. Second, the dress. Finally, the climate; will the wedding be outside and potentially wet or windy, or will it be really dry?" What should every bride's first step be? "A trial. Don't be afraid of getting two trials, even. If your second trial isn't going the way you want it to, look for another stylist. You have to build a rapport with your stylist so they understand who you are." What are your favourite wedding looks? 1 High and Dry Freshen loose locks pre-reception with a quick hit of Principessa's Notte Breeze dry shampoo ($24 at principessabeauty.com). 2 Get Your Fix Invigorate 4 5 your scalp, do away with pesky dandruff and promote healthier looking, shiny hair with Kiehl's Magic Elixir Hair Restructuring Concentrate with Rosemary Leaf and Avocado Oils ($24 at kiehls.ca). 3 Star Treatment Parabenand sodium chloride-free, celebrity stylist Oribe Canales's eponymous Shampoo and Conditioner for Beautiful Color extends the life of your colour treatment and keeps hair soft while boosting body and shine (shampoo $39, conditioner $44, at beautymark.ca). 4 Make Waves Organic lavender in John Masters Organics Sea Mist spray locks in moisture, while natural sea salt creates the same body that hair has after playing in the ocean. Think flowing, romantic waves ($22.50 at beautymark.ca). 5 Gripping Story "Hair should be secured enough to hold the whole day, but not look like a shellacked football," says fashion runway stylist Dan Nguyen. Moroccanoil's Luminous lightweight hairspray won't leave a sticky residue or weigh down hair. Its reflective shield fights frizz and humidity ($23.80 at salons and spas). See Shopping Guide on page 108 for details. "If my clients ask about hair ornaments, I always suggest fresh flowers, not crystals, pearls or those ghastly things. But if you are going to go that route, then less is more. I'm also a big believer in added hair. It takes things to another level. It's not about big hair, it's about luxurious hair and it's not a huge cost." What common error do you see? "An up-do can be cool, modern and classic, or it can go horribly wrong. I'm not a fan of the various shapes of crispy, hard-sprayed 'fruit bowls' on your head." What's one thing a bride may overlook? "You want someone who understands your texture; whether it's smooth or wavy you want to nail it down. If it's purposefully airy, fluffy or romantic, then commit to that. Make your texture look beautiful." Last tips? "Start planning your look at least six months before your wedding. Hair has to look beautiful and touchable. Get your colour done about 10 days before the wedding — two weeks, max. And don't scrimp! You can be wearing Chanel, but if you have a bad lid, God help you." rw Contact: Lure Salon, 840 Howe St., Vancouver, 604-669LURE, luresalon.ca 76 R E A L WEDDINGS p70-79_Colours of Love Real Beauty.indd 76 4/24/12 3:29:41 PM
