Long known for its resource-rich foundation and industrial roots, Prince George is a city where community thrives, businesses scale and the wilderness is nearby. A GROWING CITY WITH PURPOSE With over 89,000 residents and a trade area of 332,000, Prince George is growing. The local workforce of 55,000 is diverse and skilled, contributing to high-value job sectors such as mining, construction and manufacturing, and employed at over 8,200 local businesses. A STRATEGIC HUB FOR TRADE & TRANSPORT Prince George is strategically located at the intersection of Highways 16 and 97, and supported by an International Airport and CN Rail's Intermodal hub. Its proximity to the Port of Prince Rupert positions the city two days closer to Asia-Pacific markets than any other major North American port. AN ECONOMY ON THE RISE Prince George set a new development record in 2024 with 417 building permits issued, totaling $267 million in value. This growth signals strong investor confidence in the city's industrial and commercial sectors and reinforces its expanding economic base. Prince George also generated $65.4 million in hotel room revenue in 2024, suggesting a robust tourism sector. EDUCATION & HEALTHCARE: ENGINES OF GROWTH In 2023, UNBC secured $17.7 million in research funding, and its Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program has been instrumental in addressing healthcare staffing needs in the region. Northern Health is undertaking the expansion of the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC) through the addition of a new Acute Care Tower, valued at $1.6B. As of early 2025, the organization employs over 3,200 positions in Prince George.
