Lorne Segal
PRESIDENT, CEO
AND FOUNDER,
KINGSWOOD PROPERTIES
Originally from Joe Segal,
this was one of my father's
favourite sayings—and it's one
I live by. He had a remarkable
gift for turning complex ideas
into simple truths. This one
means: you can't expect reward
without effort, success with-
out sacrifice or impact with-
out investment. In business,
in life and in community—you
only get what you're willing
to put in. My father believed
that whether you're building a
company, a relationship or
a cause, the starting point is
always commitment. That
wisdom shaped the way I lead
and the legacy I hope to honour.
"IF YOU WANT CHICKEN
SOUP, YOU GOTTA PUT A
CHICKEN IN THE POT."

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER,
TEDxVANCOUVER AND TEDxWHISTLER;
RESTAURATEUR, BASMATI AND SPICE
When you're running a business or non-
profit, you're in the epicentre of putting
out fires, pivoting and navigating chal-
lenges daily. You get so granular on the
problem solving that it feels overwhelming
and sometimes exhausting. It's helpful to
zoom out, remember why you started,
measure yourself to that "why" and have
that as a compass and guide when faced
with adversity.
This has helped me tremendously, espe-
cially in moments where I don't see how a
solution will come forward. My "why" and
purpose of helping people gives me hope
to keep pushing and going.
"REMEMBER YOUR WHY."

Parise Siegel
DIRECTOR OF SPREADING
HAPPINESS, SIEGEL'S BAGELS
At the time, it felt obvious,
but living it day in and day out
has made all the difference.
I love bagels and I care deeply
about this business. When that
passion comes through—
whether it's in how we greet
a customer, roll the dough or
support each other on a busy
morning—it creates something
people can feel. They come
back not just for the food
but for the experience and
the connection. That advice
has stuck with me and it has
shaped how I lead and how we
do things here.
"STAY PASSIONATE
AND BE REAL."
