CHEERS TO ZERO-PROOF These five B.C. brands are redefining summer drinks with their non-alcoholic creations—no hangover included By Dani Wright I N V E N T O R Y 5. Dry Delights Lumette founders Alayne and Jason MacIsaac are no strangers to the world of booze: they're also the cofounders of Sheringham Distillery. When they founded the nonalc brand Lumette in Victoria in 2018 it was with the intention to "provide an equally inspiring nonalcoholic option to cocktail lovers everywhere," says Alayne. The brand's offerings range from a botanicalforward gin alternative to a toasty, boozefree take on rum. enjoylumette.com 2. Sober Sips Brothers Lane and Leigh Matkovich founded Vancouverbased Nonny in 2022 with the goal of bringing "the fun of craft beer into the nonalc beer world," says Lane. The brand's innovative process doesn't just remove alcohol from a fullstrength brew—"Nonny builds our beer from the bottom up," explains Lane. The result? A fullflavoured nonalcoholic beer that rivals those in the competitive craft market. Their offerings range from Czech pilsner to West Coast IPA to limitededition releases. nonny.beer 4. Sans Spirits Founded in Vancouver in 2023 by Jane Stoller and Marina Billinghurst, dealcoholized sparkling wine brand Glimmer offers an alternative to traditional grapes with all the tasting notes you expect from an unoaked chardonnay. "We decided to create the nonalcoholic wine we actually wanted to drink—beautiful, premium and thoughtfully made," says Stoller. "Glimmer is all about offering a true lifestyle experience, not just a substitute." drinkglimmerwine.com 1. Mocktail Magic Vancouverbased non alcoholic cocktail company Edna's produces more than your average mocktail (which, frankly, are sometimes just glorified soda or juice). Cofounder and COO Nick Devine is a selfproclaimed "lifelong bartender" who says he wanted to create "premium nonalcoholic cocktails, in a readytodrink format, that also work seamlessly as a mixer... with the quality and authenticity of a cocktail you'd have in proper cocktail bar." Edna's nonalcoholic beverages (which include mojitos, collins, palomas and more) are made with custom spirit extracts (which provide aroma) and citrus shrub to mimic the bite of booze. ednascocktails.com 3. Zero-Proof Pours Aēlo founder and CEO Christos Kalaitzis says the nonalcoholic, readyto drink brand was launched in North Vancouver in"mid2022—before the nonalcoholic cocktail category even had a name." At the time, he says, "buyers and distributors thought we were crazy for believing in its potential." Cut to today and the premium, zerosugar, zerocalorie (but ultra delicious) cocktails are leading the charge in the sector with flavours like aperitivo spritz and limoncello spritz. drinkaelo.com 1 2 3 4 62 B C B U S I N E S S .
