4 B C B U S I N E S S . C A S E P T E M B E R 2 0 24 CONTRIBUTORS Over the years, Vancouver-based photographer Adam Blasberg has shot several subjects for this magazine. He's also an avid hiker. "I have plenty of memories of hiking in B.C.," says Blasberg, who photographed Weekend Warrior Celia Chiang for "The Climb" (p.57). "We were walking along the trail when a man warned us that there were bears around the corner. We didn't walk much farther before turning around. I've had too many encounters with bears and didn't feel like another one on that particular morning." " MEC has always been a part of my love of the outdoors," says Comox Valley-based writer Ryan Stuart, who wrote about the outdoor brand in "From Co-op to Company" (p.9). "I can still remember my first trip to a MEC store," he notes. "I brought a green day pack for school. I had that pack for years and years... When I heard that MEC was planning on opening a new store in B.C., it seemed like the right time to write about the company." ON THE COVER Kits eyewear is also a café. Tables and chairs were pushed around the room… we were definitely in the way of customers trying to get their morning coffee.
