Jessica Natale Woollard
started freelance writing in
2007, drawn to the field to chase
a love of learning and to share
stories deserving of a wider
audience. In this issue, Natale
Woollard wrote profiles for the
Community Builder finalists in
our Women of the Year awards
(p.23). "These impressive B.C.
women lead with head and
heart," she says. "I was reminded
of what Lawyer Barbie says in
the Barbie movie: 'I have no
difficulty holding both logic and
emotion at the same time, and
it does not diminish my powers.
It expands them.'" Read on to

Kyrani Kanavaros is a full-time
beagle lover, professional pho-
tographer, mother of twins and
recovering law firm employee.
"Shooting Ashley Syer and her
dog Sadie [for "Holding Court,"
p.9] momentarily had me re-
considering going back to a law
firm—what a gorgeous space
that looks more like a design
firm than a law office," she says,
adding that her beagle Hector
could learn some manners
from Sadie. Kanavaros also cap-

of the Year feature: "She was so
much fun. Her celebrity stories
were the best. I wish I could
share a few of those but as they
say, what happens at a shoot,
stays at the shoot."
