While the global companies with a presence here do their best to snap up the top talent, other firms have been forced to cut staff as investor money has dried up significantly. But there are still many companies battling it out in B.C.'s tech sector, fighting the good fight and dreaming big. While the five organizations (and the people behind them) we highlight in the following pages are very different in terms of size, age and industry, they're all actively making moves to succeed on a global scale. It's the ambition here that we celebrate and appreciate, especially from a province that has so often seen companies flee south when they get big enough. That could happen here (heck, Mesentech's Jonathan Polak specifically notes how difficult it is for biotech firms to stay in B.C.), but we sure hope that's not the case. For now, we're happy to introduce you to some names you should know. by Nathan Caddell and James Matthews
