E ach year, the RAIC's honours and awards highlight the impact of our profession and the excellence achieved by the architectural community in Canada. Our awards bring attention to the accomplishments of practitioners, educa- tors, and the many others who contribute to the quality of the built environment in Canada, as well as promoting connections and partnerships that strengthen the profession today and in the future. The call for submissions is now open. If there is a person or project you think should be recognised, don't miss this opportunity to help reach a national and international audience. Now is the perfect time to submit a nomination – this season's awards have been revamped, the submis- sion fees have been lowered, and the deadline has been extended. Our roster of awards has changed this season, reflecting an exciting new direction for the RAIC and for the Honours and Awards program. Along with the RAIC Gold Medal, the Architectural Practice Award and the Emerging Architectural Practice Award, three formerly biannual awards have been overhauled from their previous forms with updated names and terms of references. If you know someone who has contributed to the advancement of Canadian architecture through patronage, advocacy, or other forms of support, the RAIC Advocate for Architecture Award is a way to highlight the work they have done. Nominations are not limited to architects – this award celebrates the wide range of individuals who have an impact on the built environment. Architecture needs its stories told, and the RAIC Architectural Journalism and Media Award recognizes the storytellers. Nominate an architect, architectural practice, or individual who has promoted public understanding and awareness of architecture, the role of architects and their impacts on society, and/or the value of design and design excellence. Our third re-vamped award focuses on those who are advancing the profession through excellence in research and innovation in archi- tectural practice, technology, or pedagogy. The RAIC Research and Innovation in Architecture Award celebrates initiatives that advance professional practice and disciplinary knowledge. The award covers a range of contributions, including (but not limited to) new building details and technologies, spatial strategies, new ways of structuring practices, and new design or construction processes. Along with these changes to our awards and honours, we are intro- ducing a new initiative that opens up the process for RAIC honorary membership. Any member can now nominate a deserving candidate who has provided distinguished service to the architectural profession Putting the spotlight on professional excellence and upholds the objectives and values of the RAIC, but would not other- wise qualify for a regular RAIC membership. Lastly, as part of our ongoing efforts to make the RAIC's awards more accessible for all, entry fees have been decreased for the five awards offered this year (RAIC Gold Medal and the Honorary Membership are considered "honours" and do not have entry fees). Members receive a 25 percent discount for all awards this season. Detailed information about pricing is available on the awards' call for submission pages on the RAIC website. To make it even easier to apply for these exciting opportunities, the deadline for all open calls for submission has been extended this year from December 15, 2022, to January 12, 2023. That gives you an extra month to explore the updated Honours and Awards section on our website and submit a nomination to honour a colleague, a firm, or an advocate for the architectural profession! With an extended deadline, reduced prices, and restructured awards, we're excited to see what this season's submissions will bring. Good luck to all those who apply! A
