Harricana is her company, known for recycling furs. Originally, the Harricana was an Algonquin river route used during the first fur exchanges in Quebec in the 17th century. Mariouche takes old fur coats to make new designs and reuses the furs of the fox, wolf, chinchilla and lynx to name a few. Since she started Mariouche Gagné in 1993, Mariouche has recycled over 50 000 coats which means that she saved the lives of close to half a million animals! Her ecological creations are now sold in 18 countries. The runway of this year's Signature, the most prominent fashion show in Canada put on by students of LaSalle College, revealed the rising popularity of recycled fur with graduate designers inspired to go green. A pioneer in Canada, Mariouche sets the standards high and proves that fashion can be in harmony with nature. Check out her work at harricana. qc.ca and visit lasallecollege.com for more about studying in fashion design.
