Arriscraft's ARRIS-clip thin stone, University of Southern Indiana. 52 | S E P T E M B E R 2 0 2 2 Masonry Another popular product being used extensively in institutional and educa- tion projects is Arriscraft's Arris-clip thin stone. These calcium silicate thin stone units are an affordable way to get the aesthetic and performance benefits of a masonry exterior. These thin units simply clip into a channel system to create a durable rainscreen veneer. "We find architectural clients choosing Arris-clip to deliver a high-quality masonry exterior on building designs that would be challenging for traditional full-bed masonry," Zonneveld says. By combining environmentally-friendly raw material with a passion for quality, the third generation of owners of Endicott in Nebraska produce face brick, thin brick, and pavers that impart a wide range of style aesthetics, from traditional to ultra-modern. An example of the former is the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls South Dakota, which combined Desert Ironspot Light and Dark thin bricks along with Coppertone and Golden Buff thin bricks to give this massive neo-Victorian structure an appearance that is both fresh and pleasingly familiar. At the other end of the design spectrum is Arrive Hotel in Austin Texas, for which Baldridge Architects used Endicott's Manganese Ironspot face brick to augment a unique series of shifting floorplates and cantilevers – and contribute greatly to the building's gentrification of the east side of this city. As for its pavers, Endicott is heavily invested in university and shopping mall projects, with past projects of note including Villanova University (Pennsylvania) and University of Nebraska, as well as Citadel Outlets mall in Los Angeles and Outlets at Castle Rock in Colorado. I-XL Building Products, Canada's leading distributor of architectural masonry, has a broad portfolio of brick, stone, and cladding for architects, build- ers, and construction professionals. Given the seemingly indestructible demand for masonry even in the face of rampant inflation, I-XL in June announced that it had signed an agreement to become a distributor for Palmetto Brick throughout Western Canada – Palmetto being the largest family-owned brick manufacturer in South Carolina. I-XL president David Hughes told media, "We believe that this partnership gives I-XL an even greater selection of premium brick products to offer our clients," and it also reinforces the company's commitment to provide customers with the highest quality masonry. The agreement came on the heels of I-XL arranging to become a master distributor for King Klinker products in Canada – King Klinker being a leading manufacturer of thin brick veneer. This partnership also includes Advanced Formliners and Speedymason: the former is a manufacturer of seamless con- crete and embedded brick formliners, and Speedymason manufactures panel solutions for thin brick and stone applications. Finally, Masonal Stone Inc. lays claim to having the largest selection of thin stone veneers and full bed stones quarried in Canada, available at over 100 dealers across North America. The company's Glacier marble has outstanding properties that make it easy to shape and process into a wide variety of items, from nine-foot-long steps to half-inch tiles. Also, Masonal Stone's new Granite Collection (inspired by requests from designers and architects) ranges in colours and styles from subtle greys and blues to the more traditional black and pinks; ashlars come hand rocked to accent depth and in pre-cut combinations to simplify installation. By contrast, the Ledgestone collection is a mosaic of texture, colour, and shade: the random patterns of thinly sliced stones take great time and skill to lay, but the overall impression is breathtaking.
