That helped ensure our products were still flowing to our customers and projects were staying on schedule, plus, we didn't have to lay anyone off," he says. Looking ahead, Bousfield is excited to be work- ing alongside design firms and large contractors who would have previously dismissed a fibreglass manufacturer as either being niche, or too much of a premium price. "The project goals of larger designers and contractors are suited to the high-performance of our product," he explains. "We recently con- ducted a Q& A and virtually all larger architects are now planning to do a Passive House project. Having a local and established supplier of a Passive House window that is available in the configuration of a window wall means we are excited to have those con- versations over the next year and beyond." Carmen Chun, associate at RJC, works with a number of glazing contractors and looks after the engineering requirements of curtain walls. Chun has a unique manufacturing viewpoint when it comes to trends. Chun says out West not many owners are using facade consultants compared to the East, and this is in part because the industry is slower to adapt in the West where a lot of projects are value engineered out. In B.C., meeting energy goals continues to be a focus and Chun says it's a balancing act between meeting those goals while achieving the aesthetics that architects are looking for. One system gaining traction is Kamloops-based Inland Glass & Aluminum's unitized curtain wall, which is especially suitable for large towers. "One job we are doing is for The Stack at 1133 Melville in Vancouver, which is using a combined panel between triple glazed and with a built-in span- drel. So instead of having a fixed mullion separating two pieces of glass, it's all one piece. It gives it a much more seamless look and is extremely energy effi- cient," says Chun. Other projects of note are: Burrard Place that features curved glass mullions and uses a unitized system that is double glazed; and the refur- bishment of 609 Granville Pacific Centre Offices.
