J U N E 2 0 2 2 | 23 Roofing/Cladding Materials P H OTO G R A P H Y CO U RT E S Y C A R L I S L E S Y N T EC S YS T EM S While RCABC is broadly known as an organization dedicated to bringing together professional roofing contractors, manufacturers, and suppliers, and giving its members training and technical support, it continues to generate spe- cific interest thanks to the first roofing guarantee backed by both the contractor and the association itself. The RoofStar Guarantee is issued when the project is constructed with qualified contractors, trained installers, meeting the guaran- tee standards, using accepted materials, and utilizing independent inspections. Matzek notes that the RoofStar Guarantee standards will become more important than ever as Canadian provinces fall under increasingly stringent building practices. "Here in B.C., Step Code 3 will be implemented at the end of this year, and that will have a big impact on the way roofing and cladding sys- tems are installed," he says. "It's a push towards achieving passive house energy efficiency, and we will continue to ensure that our guarantee standards align with provincial standards." Carlisle SynTec Systems is a leader in the commercial single-ply roofing industry and provides EPDM, TPO, PVC and Fleeceback membranes plus insula- tion and many other components through a select network of manufacturer's representatives, distributors, and applicators. Kayla Rose, Carlisle's marketing brand manager, says,"The commercial roofing industry, like so many others, has been faced with obstacles like product avail- ability because of the supply chain issues and raw material shortages. However, the Single-Ply Roofing Industry predicts growth in 2022 with total single-ply up 42 percent as of the end of February. The Dodge New Construction Outlook for 2022 is also predicting that overall new construction will grow nine percent." Rose adds that Carlisle will continue to put innovation at the forefront by focus- ing on new product development to give the company a competitive advantage. For example, its Fleeceback RapidLock roofing system is an adhesive-less system that utilizes Velcro Brand Securable Solutions to attach the membrane. This offers significant labour savings when compared to traditional adhered systems. "This product is exclusive to Carlisle and we are currently the only manufacturer who offers this system," Rose says. Another Carlisle product of note stems from the need for economical as well as eco-friendly solutions for re-roofing and retrofit applications. With this in mind, Carlisle offers the VacuSeal Vent Secured Roofing System, ideal for large roofs affected by material shortages on conventional fasteners and adhesives. VacuSeal uses a loose-laid membrane and specialized vents that harness the power of wind to create negative pressure, securing the roof in place. It's a wind-ballasted roofing system, so no need for extensive installation equipment, adhesives, and fasteners. This results in less noise and fewer disruptions during the installation process as well as no adhesive odours, no VOCs, and no cold weather limitations. As for what is coming down the turnpike in her sector, Rose says, "I think single- ply roofing manufacturers will continue to produce as much material as they can to fill demand, as there is still some catching up to do from when new construc- tion was halted during the pandemic. The hope is that the supply chain challenges will eventually subside so that production schedules can get back on track." A Fleeceback RapidLock roofing system.
