Luckily, the manufacturers and distributors of modern windows are ready for the challenge. With slick modern styles, high-performance mate- rials and the technology to achieve bold new scales and sizes, designers can easily meet the desire for natural light, fresh air, and views. "We are seeing homeowners invest in their homes by incorporating new types of spaces for family, work, individual recharge that often incorporate thoughtfully placed windows, larger windows, unique door applications, and design-forward takes on sunrooms or sun-filled spaces, all of which play a significant role in enabling homeowners to feel better at home," says Christine Marvin, chief marketing and experience officer at Marvin. MAKE IT MODERN Modern continues to be the look du jour, explains Erik Ashcraft, product manager for windows at Milgard Windows and Doors. "The industry continues to respond to the demand for more modern-looking products, larger sizes that allow for more natural light, and darker colours, particularly black both interior and exterior." Think contemporary chic, with clean, simple lines, narrow profiles, and more glass than ever before. It's a look that matches a general interest in modern interior design and architecture. "Customers are interested in more glass and less frame," adds Kareem Abdul, senior product manager at All Weather Windows. "Narrow frames complement décor, architecture, and the overall feel to contemporary home designs." Milgard, for one, recently introduced a matching black exterior and interior to its Trinsic Series V300 vinyl windows and doors. The capstock material offers an incredibly durable, consistent finish that taps into that demand for dark frames: on trend to a T. FUNCTION FIRST Of course, looks aren't everything. "Ultimately homeowners are looking for a product that looks great, is easy to use, and is energy efficient," emphasises Ashcraft. "Design and building professionals are looking for very similar items: a product that delivers on the aesthetic and performance requirements their customers require."
