(Top to bottom) Pelargonium 'Vancouver Centennial', black mondo grass, variegated ajuga, Sedum rupestre 'Angelina' Elisabeth in her garden, framed by a Pieris japonica For an inside look at Elisabeth's use of water features go to bcliving.ca/zoffmann-garden Peach and yellow daylilies Brunnera 'Jack Frost', purple Oxalis triangularis Blue-leaved Rosa glauca and Lonicera 'Baggesen's Gold' intertwine Astrantia maxima The garden at the front of the house relies more on foliage effects for its impact. A large stand of black-stemmed bamboo, purple elders 'Black Beauty' and 'Midnight Lace' and a filigree of Japanese maples screen the house from the sidewalk. Around the front door, frosty blue hebes mingle with clumps of green and golden grasses. In the 10 years that she has lived in this small pocket of Vancouver, Elisabeth has transformed her surroundings from curbside to cliff side and even beyond. She attributes some of her success to her father, a skilled gardener trained in Europe who passed onto her a love of green and growing things. ■ 38 | BC HOME & GARdEn November/December 2012 p34-39_Zoffman garden.indd 38 13-06-07 12:24 PM
