Technology is changing faster than ever, and University Canada West (UCW), Vancouver's business and technology-focused university, is leading the way. Earlier this year, the university created a series of micro-credentials for new students, issuing thousands of digital badges for completing sessions that provide students with the tools they need for academic success. UCW also has an exciting line-up of innovative short courses focused on technology that can help learners gain valuable and specific skills in a short amount of time. Aimed at students, recent graduates and working professionals looking to upskill, UCW's short courses have something to offer everyone. ■ BLOCKCHAIN ENTREPRENEURSHIP The Blockchain Entrepreneurship Certificate course is an online, three-level educational series that prepares graduates to master blockchain and cryptocurrencies for current and future employment and covers how entrepreneurs can use these technologies. Attendees finish with the knowledge, vocabulary and skills needed to manage blockchain and cryptocurrencies in professional situations. They will understand and apply valuable entrepreneurial concepts as they work with blockchain and cryptocurrency-focused projects. At the end of each level, students receive a certificate of accomplishment. Once they complete all three levels, students qualify to take the Foundational Technologies Institute (FTI) exam, which is included in the course cost. Students who pass that exam with 70% or higher receive a certificate and professional designation from FTI. ■ CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY This 42-hour program focuses on the exciting new world of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), providing a foundation in the development and management of CSR strategies. It gives learners an overview of the importance of CSR and some of the frameworks used by the world's largest tech, telecommunications, manufacturing, retail and mining companies. Participants learn how to improve an organization's environmental footprint, employee engagement, waste management, human rights performance and responsible supply chain management. Participants who complete the course will qualify to take the FTI exam to receive a certificate and professional designation. ■ CERTIFIED DIGITAL MARKETING The Certified Digital Marketing Professional course by the Digital Marketing Institute helps participants future-proof their careers by gaining the latest and most up-to-date digital marketing skills needed to thrive in today's ever-evolving digital economy. Once they complete the course, participants qualify to take DMI's Pearson VUE test to become a Certified Digital Marketing Professional. The future of education and technology are inexplicitly interconnected, and UCW is planning to continue to lead the way, introducing more micro- credentials and short courses later this year. ■ For more information about UCW's short courses, visit ucanwest.ca/short-courses.
