granite boulder jutting out of the water, is Girl in a Wetsuit. Artist Elek Imredy sculpted the striking scuba diver statue in 1972 in acknowledgement of Vancouver's dependence on the sea. Emerging from Stanley Park at English Bay, you'll be met by 14 cartoonish bronze figures grinning from ear to ear. A favourite among locals, A-maze-ing Laughter by Chinese artist Yue Minjun depicts the artist marriage debates transpiring in Canada. On the beach you'll also spot 217.5 Arc x 13' by Bernar Venet. Drawing on the beauty of mathematics, the raw, curved Corten steel beams demonstrate the stability and malleability of this industry material. From here, follow the seawall all the way to Vanier Park, or hop a ride across False Creek on a tiny passenger ferry. As you approach, watch for Freezing Water by Jun Ren, Freezing Water Digital Orca Engagement himself laughing and gesturing in a series of oversized self-portraits. Continue down the Seaside Bicycle Route to the inukshuk, constructed by Alvin Kanak. This Inuit stone structure resembling a human form represents hospitality. A gift to the city from the Northwest Territories during Expo 86, it later became the symbol of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Sunset Beach Park is home to two giant diamond rings constructed by Dennis Oppenheim and appropriately named Engagement. Then stop for a rest at Kitsilano Beach and take a seat on Echoes by Michel Goulet, a collection of stainless steel café chairs inscribed with thoughtful phrases in both French and English.
