J U LY 2 0 2 0 | 31 Paint & Coatings Sherwin-Williams is announcing its annual Colormix Forecast, a collection of 45 hues that bring joy, serenity, and focus to the mind, body, and spirit. This year's standout hues are expressed through five inspirational and balanced colour collections that warmly welcome a new decade in home and commercial design: Alive, Mantra, Play, Haven, and Heart. "We expect 2020 to be an empowering year of change that will focus on bringing your best self into the new decade," says Sue Wadden, director of colour marketing at Sherwin-Williams. "Homeowners and designers alike are seeking warmth – colours that feel human and natural. The colours in these five palettes, when invited into our spaces, pave the way for wellness and self-nurturance." Alive centres around being present and soaking up every moment. Nurturing neutrals are artfully arranged with rich blues and a deep, ripe olive that evoke a satisfying and rejuvenating sense of community and living well. Mantra creates an East meets West look with a serene collection of softly muted neutrals that glide from warm to cool. Nordic simplicity entwines with the order and elegance of Japanese esthetics to create a look that's simple, yet utterly essential. Play offers an energetic and clever palette that exudes charm through buoyant, playful colour. Anchored by a fresh, pure white, it's peppered with surprising pops of bright pink, aqua, and gold, and balanced through monochromatic neutrals. Drawing upon Earth's seasonal cycles, Haven features rich, yet subtle shades of sea, sand, forest and sky to organically bring the outdoors in. Heart is a unique fusion of iconic modern design mixed with an intergenerational boho vibe. From silky neutral tones to clove and soft coral, these hues are a meditation in comfort, connection, and pleasures found in the everyday. This palette pairs well with retro-inspired accessories and warm, earthy finishes. The extremes of our unique Canadian climate put exterior finishes to the test. "Our newly reformulated, 100 per cent acrylic Dulux Diamond exterior paint, with enhanced dirt, U V and climate resistance, is designed to withstand our ever-changing Canadian weather," says Mitsu Dhawan, PPG brand man- ager, Dulux Paints by PPG. "Resistant to cracking, peeling and deterioration by mould, fungus, and mildew, its advanced acrylic polymer technology stops the penetration of dirt and water, while allowing the coating to breathe." The sun, rain, and snow are no friends to exterior wood surfaces. "That's why we developed our Dulux Semi-Transparent Acrylic/Oil exterior stain," says Dhawan. "With its blend of transparent iron oxides and U V and visible light stabilizers as well as excellent sun protection, it provides the durability of an acrylic finish with the richness of a penetrating alkyd." Offering guaranteed performance on decks and fences and exceptional penetration and application properties that deliver a perfect finish, this professional stain repels water, keeping wood dry and protected from infestation, rot and decay. Sansin launched new warm, earthy and grey tones for interior and exterior wood finish lines with 25 new colours to complement its already-expansive colour palette. New colours in the Purity Interior Stain and Gel line include a range of soothing shades that meet consumer demand for grey, brown, and off-white tones. "We are very selective about which tones make it into our colour portfolio, which speaks volumes about the beauty of these new colours," says Caroline March-Long, Sansin's director of sales and marketing. "We are excited to offer these to our customers who now have even more options for toning the wood while allowing the beauty of the wood grain to show through with remarkable clarity." For the exterior, translucent shades that enhance the character of the wood were added in shades that include smokey blue, earthy green, and striking onyx. Deep, saturated colours that showcase the exceptional beauty of wood were also added in shades of blue, grey, and tan. Sansin has harnessed the power of nano technology that atomizes the highest quality pigments into tiny particles so incredibly fine that they combine with protective oils and resins in Sansin finishes on a molecular level. Once applied to a wood surface, Sansin's penetrating coatings carry the pigmentation down into the wood for uniform colour that is both vibrant and long-lasting, while being environmentally friendly.
