Sharon Chow and Kevin Ault July 7, 2012 Ceremony at Collage Collage Reception at Les Faux Bourgeois, Vancouver When graphic designer Sharon Chow and high-school teacher Kevin Ault were planning their wedding, the starry-eyed Vancouver couple dreamed of hosting a big bash with hundreds of guests. But they soon realized that would involve a much bigger financial commitment than they had anticipated. Wisely, they chose to downsize their dream day — and the result was a creative, fun and intimate affair that couldn't have suited this quirky couple more perfectly. Right from the start, Sharon and Kevin's courtship was an unusual one. After meeting online in April 2010, the fun-loving duo decided to eschew traditional dinnerand-movie dates for more unpredictable adventures. On their first date, they started a food fight; on the third, they got matching tattoos; and on yet another, they vowed to remain silent for the entire evening. Nearly two years later, Kevin surprised Sharon one December night with a small gift box. Tucked carefully amongst slips of paper with the words, "we," "you" and "marry," was an engagement ring. Sharon responded to this quiet proposal with an enthusiastic yes — an answer she reiterated last summer when the two wed at Collage Collage, a children's art studio in east Vancouver. An offbeat place to swap vows, it proved the perfect choice for the young couple. Not only would they save money on rental fees, it also invited a full expression of the duo's youthful enthusiasm, not to mention Sharon's realweddings.ca p56-59_Sharon+Kevin.indd 57 57 13-04-22 11:12 AM
