10 PSF SUPPORTERS REFLECT ON
THEIR PATH TO STEWARDSHIP AND
ONGOING EFFORTS TO CONSERVE
AND ENHANCE PACIFIC SALMON
T
he Pacific Salmon Foundation
supports a variety of scholarships
and bursaries geared toward
fostering future salmon stewards. During
her studies at Vancouver Island University,
Heather Hewitt received a number of
bursaries. She was also the first recipient
of the Alexander "Sandy" Miller PSF
Fisheries Endowment Award in 2018.
At that time, Heather stated that her
goal was to work with Pacific salmon in
some capacity that would aide their growth
and survival, and she has achieved that
goal. In 2019, she started working at the
Percy Walkus Hatchery in Rivers Inlet,
and in December, she was appointed
hatchery manager.

"I have really
enjoyed working
at the Percy Walkus
Hatchery this last year and
I am so grateful for the help
and encouragement I was
given during my schooling
through bursaries and awards.
They helped me to achieve
my dream of working in
salmonid enhancement."
