40 BCBUSINESS APRIL 2020 F A BOOM IN B.C.'S GOLDEN TRIANGLE HAS PUT THE PROVINCE'S MINING INDUSTRY BACK IN THE LIMELIGHT. BUT CAN THE GOOD TIMES LAST? For those in B.C.'s mining sector, there is but one event on the business calendar each year: the Association for Mineral Explo- ration (AME) Roundup conference. Held in late January, the 2020 edition saw more than 6,000 people from 38 countries crowd the hallways, ballrooms and meeting rooms of the Vancouver Conven- tion Centre's east wing. They inspected mineral exhibits, chatted with suppliers, attended seminars and panel discussions, and socialized at nightly networking events with colleagues and competitors from around the world. A select few got a head start on the activities. On Monday, January 20—dark and early, at 7 a.m.—about 50 chief executives and senior leaders from some of B.C.'s top mining companies came to hear from one of their industry's leading thinkers. Rick Rule, president and CEO of Sprott U.S. Holdings, a San Diego–based financier and go-to media expert on all things metals, was there to discuss "Van- couver's Competitive Advantage in Mining and Mining Finance." As Rule sees it, there's much for B.C. miners to celebrate in 2020. gold > > > b y M AT T O ' G R A D Y rush after the COURTESY OF PRETIUM RESOURCES
