F E B R U A R Y 2 0 2 0 | 45 300 Main informed the resulting architectural design of the tower, Wan explains: "Our typical approach to design stems from a mindset that architecture is an answer to a problem. It must accomplish many things and, as we started to shape the criteria of how the product should function, it began to shape and inform our design." As a result, Wan says contextual cues imbue the architecture with an esthetic that complements the surrounding built environment. The building's material makeup is a mix of aluminum composite panel in a black and wood finish, as well as curtain wall, brick, and locally-sourced Tyndall Stone. "While composite panel has a smooth qual- ity, we like to contrast textures with both the Tyndall stone and brick," explains Wan. "There were limitations where we had to re-clad existing wall assemblies, and having a lightweight material was paramount." Once complete, 300 Main will offer residents access to a full range of ame- nities both in the surrounding area, as well as the building itself, including a fitness centre, games room, 40th floor Skylounge and an outdoor common area with BBQs. As Artis REIT says in its marketing material, it will be "a mix of meeting spaces, multi-purpose rooms and roof top patios [that] will encapsulate unimpeded views of the Winnipeg skyline." Above all, 300 Main marks a momentous development within the city of Winnipeg.
