1. Have fun with wallpaper Keeping with her joy-and-whimsy theme, Wall chose wallpaper featuring a playful range of chartreuse mountains. "To me it had this childlike feeling, like a handdrawn illustration. Though it could be great in an entranceway." Wallpaper, Anne Starr 2. Hire a professional installer Wall budgeted for a professional wallpaper installer. She spent $500 on designer wallpaper and $500 for installation. "A thousand dollars can be a lot of money, but you are getting a feature wall. I didn't want to mess it up when I was spending so much on the paper." Wallpaper installation, Hull Decoration & Design 3. Add furniture with form and function Fledgling interior designer Sami Wall found that decorating the nursery for her first baby held a challenge she hadn't encountered with even her most demanding clients: the future occupant was a stranger. Wall began pinning together a literal "mood board" based on positive feelings. "I wanted it to be a really happy space. Joyful and whimsical." She also wanted nature-inspired pieces that weren't too babyish. "Because I didn't know what gender the baby was going to be, I was drawn to these punchy chartreuse and turquoise colours." Hip to Wall's penchant for bright blues and greens, her best friend stitched up a pretty quilt with squares that unknowingly included the same fabric Wall used to make crib sheets. There is a '70s vibe resonating throughout the space from the midcentury-modern style crib to the wooden bird mobile. Wall's favourite piece is the green Moroccan pouf, a treat she'd never been able to justify for herself. "Then I saw the green one. It was a splurge item for that room and I love it still." The luxury piece is a durable choice for Poppy too, who loves to clamber all over it. Pouf, The Cross Decor and Design 4. Include baby eye candy A collection of cute prints by Petit Collage – including a charming owl – entertain Poppy during diaper changes. The blue butterfly print and wacky green elephant over the crib will transition to adult spaces if she later tires of them.
