AUGUST 2019 | 29 Bathtubs & Showers Bathtubs and showers make big impressions in small spaces by LAURIE JONES Oasis Of Relaxation N o matter how many challenges a hectic life can present, slipping into the relax- ing flow of water can often melt stress away in minutes. With designers look- ing to create finished looks that seem straight from the pages of style magazines, manufactur- ers and suppliers have pulled out all the stops in 2019. BATHTUBS BainUltra has expanded its newest Vibe Collection to include three therapeutic tubs, each with its own modern esthetic and fashion-forward style. Inspired by city skylines, the Vibe concept was designed for the next generation of bathers, particularly those urban millennials who want to create an oasis of relaxation in their space-challenged lofts or high-rise condos. "The newest Vibe tubs bring additional flexibility and installation options to this contemporary collection, making it easy for city sophisticates to incorporate restorative bathing rituals into their daily routines," says Julie Metras, marketing operations co-ordinator. The Vibe Back To Wall 5828 features a design that allows the tub to be installed snugly against a wall. "This smart engineering lets designers and consumers achieve the look of a freestanding tub without sacrificing valuable floor space," explains Metras. "Measuring 58 inches by 28 inches by 21 inches, this sophisticated tub has gently sloped sides and clean minimalist lines." Also available in the collection are the Vibe Oval 5830, a 58-inch by 30-inch by 21-inch unit with a 26-degree slope at the backrest, and the stylish free- standing Vibe Design 6033 that features a slightly wider bathing well for total relaxation. "Its generous 60-inch by 33-inch by 21-inch dimensions provide ample space to stretch out and a luxurious soaking experience for the bather," says Metras. All Vibe tubs are offered in glossy white, Ultravelour matte, or an eye-catching black and white look with optional Hydro-thermo Massage, Illuzio chromotherapy, or WarmTouchShell technology. DXV, part of Lixil, has recreated a natural hot spring spa at home with its new Aqua Moment Drop-in Airbath. "Taking inspiration from iconic Japanese hot springs, the DXV Aqua Moment Drop-in Airbath with Waterfall is a one-of-a-kind bathing pool delivering hydrotherapy," says Isabel Carvalhana, senior mar- keting manager, Premium/Luxury, Lixil Canada Inc. "Not only does it offer a gentle shoulder massage, it also features chromatherapy with soothing colours for that at-home spa experience." Designed to complement the massage effect of the waterfall and provide deeply relaxing, full-sen- sory enjoyment, the tub's airbath system features 360-degree air jets offering a choice of classic, high- pressure and deep massage settings. Leaning back against the Waterfall's comfortable headrest, the user can let go and unwind as an inline heated air blower keeps the water pleasurably warm for the duration of the Aqua Moment experience. American Standard has introduced three free- standing tubs for 2019 with roomy comfort that fits an average size bathroom. "American Standard's free- standing tubs offer homeowners a satisfying deep soak in the comfort of their own home," says Bryan Ferreira, product manager, American Standard, Lixil Canada Inc. "These tubs truly stand out in the bath- room and complement any design." Choices include the Sedona Loft, a rectangular tub featuring a clean, transitional form; the Ovale, an oval tub characterized by elegant, traditional styl- ing; and the Serin, an oval shape offering a fresh look with contemporary design lines. Soaking depths range from 161∕8-inches to 173∕8-inches, they take up less room than a deck tub, and feature a convenient, centre toe-tap drain that is simple to activate. The three soaking tubs are designed to function as the focal point of the room, can fit in most standard bath- rooms, providing superior value at affordable pricing. SHOWERS Kohler's DTV+ showering system with Kohler Konnect enables users to automate the pleasure of a shower. "DTV+ with Kohler Konnect uses voice enabled technology to deliver a customizable showering expe- rience," says Donna Church, manager of marketing and communications for Kohler Canada. "The shower routine can be controlled by voice – without having to lift a finger – to provide an immersive, invigorating shower that's unique to each user in the home." The Kohler Konnect app allows users to create and manage presets for sound, water, steam, and light- ing. The app also activates the preset spa experiences offered through the DTV+ system. A DTV+ Konnect module can be added to an existing DTV+ shower- ing system. The digital interface has an easy-to-read configurable colour touchscreen, and can control up to two digital valves to provide two different shower temperatures. Plus there are 11 integrated pre-programmed hydrotherapy programs for spa- like showering experiences. "People can activate and warm up their shower before they get out of bed," says Church. A customized music playlist adds back- ground for shower singers. The 10-inch Grohe Euphoria 260 showerhead has not only grown in size, but is also distinguished by a sleek, contemporary design and chrome-plated spray face. It is manufactured to the highest standards of German workmanship with the goal of further enhanc- ing the excellent experience that Grohe delivers for its customers. "We are constantly committed to elevat- ing the user experience when it comes to our product offerings," says Carvalhana. "The Grohe Euphoria 260 Showerhead offers users a luxurious showering expe- rience, complete with three spray pattern options from soft-wide rain to a powerful centre-jet spray." By simply turning the centre button on the showerhead face, the user can change the spray from a powerful, concentrated Jet spray, to a wider Vibe 6030 Drop-in undermount bathtub from BainUltra.
