30 2019 psf.ca SALMON VANCOUVER GALA Lead sponsor Teck helped the Vancouver Gala hit a new high in 2018, with $550,000 raised for community-led wild salmon projects. Our thanks to volunteers, attendees, cash sponsors and live auction donors including Bluewater Rigging, Bridgeview Marine, David Maki, Finest at Sea - F.A.S. Seafood Producers, Langara Fishing Adventures, Rocky Mountaineer, The Kerrisdale Lumber Company and Tofino Resort and Marina. VICTORIA GALA The South Vancouver Island Gala continues to grow, with $120,000 raised in 2018, thanks largely to our devoted organizing committee (p.16) and major supporters Finest at Sea - F.A.S. Seafood Producers, Island Outfitters, Langara Fishing Adventures, Oak Bay Marine Group and Scotty Products. APPEALS & INCENTIVES PSF donors raised more than $240,000 last year through our spring and year-end appeals! The year-end appeal was the most successful yet, with funds including a $50,000 matching challenge fund set up by Rudy North to incentivize donors. Donors Making a Dierence Finest at Sea donated all of the seafood appetizers for the Vancouver Gala – from fresh oysters to delicious smoked fish! The Community Salmon Program supports about 240 volunteer groups across B.C. and the Yukon who restore habitat, enhance local fisheries and educate communities about wild salmon. Year-end appeal donor Steve McKinnon (centre) won the hand-crafted reel donated by longstanding supporter PEETZ Outdoors. Left of Steve is PSF's Elayne Sun and on the right is Marc Hoelsher, owner of PEETZ. Joachim Neumann (centre) won the TR3 reel donated by Islander Reels as an incentive prize for spring appeal donors. Joachim is flanked by PSF's Michael Meneer (left) and Cory Matheson. (See p. 21 for this year's prize package.) The limited- edition gold TR3 Islander reel was a hot commodity at the South Vancouver Island Gala's live auction. GROWING COMMITMENTS The Community Salmon Program is at the heart of PSF activities, buoying volunteers across B.C. This year, Mosaic Forest Management stepped up support with a $110,000 per year contribution, including sponsorship of community dinners. Methanex also recently increased support with a multi-year contribution agreement for the program. Special thanks to other CSP supporters Fortis BC, BC Hydro and the many anglers who purchase the Salmon Conservation Stamp – because 100 per cent of those fees are redirected to community salmon projects! (See p.14) ALL IN THE FAMILY Family foundations have become a growing base of support for the Pacific Salmon Foundation. In the last decade, Sitka Foundation has donated more than $800,000 for community salmon projects and science and research in the Salish Sea. Shannon and Nairne Gray Foundation recently joined the PSF family with a $100,000 donation. The Wolrige Foundation, The Highbury Foundation and Krogseth Foundation all continue to provide major support through PSF's year-end appeal and to our Vancouver Gala. Do you know a family foundation interested in supporting salmon? Contact Margaret Buttner at mbuttner@psf.ca or 604.664.7664 ext.128.
