Book The Boil for two featur- ing snow crab, prawns, mussels and calamari at Pier 7 Restaurant + Bar, every Thursday and Sunday from 5 p.m. on. l Every Sunday, the Ambleside Artisan Farmers' Market features vendors armed with everything from farm-fresh vegetables to tipples to crafts. Polygon gallery IQREMIX/FLICKR (ABERDEEN CENTRE), CURTESY RICHMOND OLYMPIC EXPERIENCE, TVAN/YOKOHAMA TEPPANYAKI RESTAURANT/LAURA ZHU, ROBERT STEFANOWICZ (POLYGON GALLERY), MÉLINA DIMITRIADIS @MELINAALEXANDRAART (PARK ROYAL) Aberdeen Centre Richmond Olympic Experience North Shore Park Royal SCENE: On Friday evenings from May to September, North Vancouver's Ship- yards Night Market, near the SeaBus terminal at Lonsdale Quay, boasts live music, food trucks and a beer garden. B ehind Vancouver's built skyline, the North Shore mountains tower like a gateway to the city's wild backyard. When- ever we're tired of city crowds, easy access via SeaBus makes North and West Vancouver a perfect escape. Test your toler- ance for heights on the 137-metre Capilano Suspension Bridge, as well as the suspended walkways through the trees in this highly accessible nature park. (Pro tip: If you head over after 5 p.m., you'll skip the crowds and get 30 per cent off your ticket between May 20 and Labour Day.) Park Royal's indoor-outdoor shopping centre offers an impressive mix of high- end retailers a short walk from the beachside village of Amble- side. Near the SeaBus terminal, the Polygon Gallery's striking modernist building perfectly complements its collection of contemporary art. CULTURE: Visit the International Buddhist Temple, one of the largest temples of its kind in North America. Book ahead for a guided tour or just stroll the grounds modeled on Beijing's Forbidden City. RECOMMENDED: l Head down to the fishing village of Steveston, where you can buy the catch of the day straight off the boat, tour the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site and take a boat tour to see sea lions and whales with Steveston Seabreeze Adven- tures or Vancouver Whale Watch. l Even if you're not a gambler, the River Rock Casino Resort is a great place to hear live music and stand- up comedy, especially radio favourites from the 1980s and '90s. l Feel the thrill of top competition at Richmond Olympic Experience (ROX), located in the Richmond Olympic Oval (site of the speed skating events at the 2010 Games). L ocated on an island in the Fraser River delta, Richmond used to be a quiet mix of fertile farmland and low-rise suburbia. The past three decades, however, have seen the municipality transformed by immigration from Asia. The impact can be seen in Asian-style shopping malls such as Aberdeen Centre and the 400-odd Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Filipino and Vietnamese restaurants that The New York Times, in a 2018 story, dared suggest had "the best Asian food in North America." Watch as your meal is prepared before your eyes at Yokohama Teppanyaki, mix and match Cantonese and northern Chinese dishes at Kirin Seafood Restaurant or try the renowned roasted squab at Sun Sui Wah. The city's melting pot simmers hottest at the Richmond Night Market, held Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from May to October. Korean tacos, anyone?
