On the town T here are countless places to wet that whistle, catch up over a pint or dance the night away in Vancouver. Here's where to find the fun when the sun starts to set. Juniper Award-winning barman Max Borrowman favours small-batch spirits and natural ingredients long used by Northwest Coast Indigenous peoples. FRASERHOOD The micro-neighbourhood is an apt habitat for Crowbar's confident approach to intricate- yet-unpretentious cocktails. A classic like a pisco sour gets a twist with the addition of Fernet-Branca and wood sorrel, and is renamed "Johnny Utah" after Keanu Reeves's FBI agent character in Point Break. Cocktail crawl DOWNTOWN The Rosewood Hotel Georgia named its swanky speakeasy Prohibition, and once you manage to find it, hidden behind heavy, unmarked doors, you might not want to leave. The space and menu harken back to the roaring '20s: indulge in a bourbon-packed Machine Gun Kelly cocktail, taste- test the daily punch or go all out with the absinthe experience. GASTOWN The cocktails at Pourhouse match the neighbourhood's old-fashioned soul. The Cuffs and Buttons pairs bold Buffalo Trace bourbon with honey and orange blossom. YALETOWN At Uva Wine & Cocktail Bar, the talented mixologists stir up whis- tle-wetters like Peater Rabbit, a mix of Famous Grouse blended scotch, Laphroaig Quarter Cask, red vermouth, boreal cordial and Cascade Celery Bitters from local brand Bittered Sling. CHINATOWN The gin and tonic selection at Juniper is among the city's best. Live music From storied Art-Deco ballrooms to campus theatres, here's where to take in a show – and get your groove on – in the city. GUILT & CO. Hop down the steps to the cozy Guilt & Co., where live local talent is served up alongside stellar cocktails. Find everything from funk and soul to psychedelic country and jazz on G&C's rotating roster of nightly musical acts. COMMODORE BALLROOM The Commodore Ballroom is big enough for a great atmosphere, yet small enough to feel you're right in the mix (and add to that its celebrated sprung dance floor, restored Art Deco interior and no fewer than four fully stocked bars to keep the lineup time to a minimum). ORPHEUM The home of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Orpheum is an opulent gem of a space, with its frescoed dome and grand arches and columns. Though classical music is its mainstay, it hosts a variety of other acts in its fully seated venue – Erasure, Arctic Monkeys and Beck have all played here. VOGUE THEATRE This is another Art Deco cinema turned concert venue, smack in the heart of the entertainment district. A good choice to catch a band (Neko Case, Dan Mangan), comedy show (regular stand-up shows and comedy tours) or other live happenings.
