16 | tourismvancouver.com HOCKEY Head to Rogers Arena to catch the National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks in action. The NHL regular season runs from October to early April, with exhibition tilts in September and (fingers crossed) playoffs extending as late as June. Watch rising stars Elias Pettersson, Brock Boeser and Bo Horvat light up the 18,910-seat coliseum by False Creek, which hosted Cana- da's 2010 Olympic gold medal } A T T R A C T I O N S JEFF VINNICK (VANCOUVER CANUCKS), WHITECAPS FC/BOB FRID, BC LIONS, JAKOB GJERLUFF AGER JAMES LEPP The professional golfer and CEO of Six Hundred Four – the Gastown-based brand that creates limited-edition sneakers based off of art pieces – shares his favourite shops and golf courses. ¢ ¢ STYLE: I like my shoes to do the talking, so I keep it pretty simple for apparel. Uniqlo is my go-to spot for seasonal product hauls. For pants, I really enjoy the fit and comfort of the ones at Duer on West Hastings. ¢ ¢ TEEING OFF: I'd go with the Ridge Course at Northview Golf & Country Club and Morgan Creek, both of which are in Surrey. And I have to mention my home course of Ledgeview out in Abbotsford. Both Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor grew up playing there as well. In Vancouver, I enjoy Shaughnessy and Capilano Golf & Country Clubs. Those are the most historic courses in the area, but they are private. ¢ ¢ NEIGHBOURHOOD: This may be biased, but I'd say Gastown because of the character. It's unlike any other area in Vancouver. Plus, the shops are pretty unique. INTERMISSION: At the ritzy new Sportsbar at Rogers Arena, savour gourmet hand-carved sandwiches, poutine and cocktails. Shop for custom jerseys and other NHL souvenirs at the two-level Canucks Store. Energy and passion fuel Vancouver's thriving sports scene Cheer for the home team triumph (defeating the USA 3–2). SOCCER Get your kicks with the Vancou- ver Whitecaps at BC Place, host venue of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup final between the U.S. and Japan. Join more than 20,000 spectators – including the diehard Southsiders – to root for the longest-running pro soccer club in North American history beneath the stadium's spectacular retractable roof. BASEBALL Right beside Queen Elizabeth Park, Nat Bailey Stadium is one of North America's prettiest places to watch baseball. The Vancouver Canadians, the Toronto Blue Jays' single-A farm team, won the Northwest League championship in 2017. FOOTBALL The six-time Grey Cup cham- pion BC Lions of the Canadian Football League have fielded greats including kicker Lui Passaglia, pro football's all-time leading scorer, and college and NFL quarterback Doug Flutie. Even Apollo Creed himself, Carl Weathers from the Rocky movies, once played for the BC Lions. SPORTS HISTORY Inside BC Place stadium, the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum pays tribute to athletic icons Greg Moore, Terry Fox, Nancy Greene Raine and more.
