Held in partnership with the B.C. attorney general's office and the min- istry of citizens' services, the contest aims to encourage automation and tech adoption in the legal industry. At press time, AOT's bot had made the final round. But even if it doesn't win, private firms will probably adopt the AI; CGI and iManage already supply similar services to many U.S. law firms. BANKING Coast Capital Savings turned to robotic process automa- tion (RPA) to give its employees a break from repetitive tasks–only to find it also saved money. Surrey- headquartered Coast Capital, which uses RPA to update bank account codes more often than manpower alone would allow, is the first Cana- dian credit union to do so, according to Deloitte. Last year it built its own software to harness this AI, saving an estimated $1 million in development costs. The credit union deployed the program in March 2018, just in time for RRSP season. Coast Capital found that RPA did the equivalent of three people's workload, so it didn't have to hire more seasonal staff.
