B UILDEX Vancouver is Western Canadas largest industry event of its kind with 13,500 professional attendees, a 150,000-square-foot exhibit floor, more than 55 CEU-accredited professional seminars and over 400 exhibitors. Taking place on February 13 and 14, 2013 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West, this annual tradeshow and conference has everything related to construction, architecture, interior design and property management. This years event has several new elements, including Workplace 20/20, a 2,000-squarefoot feature area on the tradeshow floor. The feature area, in partnership with Steelcase, Haworth, Teknion and Knoll, as well as local dealers and designers, offers four specially designed commercial office spaces to reflect the ever-changing needs of society. These spaces are more than just functional they reflect the growing needs of modern businesses and their employees. The design teams considered the work environment holistically, including transportation needs, employee interaction and translating company brand into the workplace. Each space highlights the newest trends, designs and technology from leading commercial office furniture designers and manufacturers. Complementing the feature is a keynote panel presentation on Wednesday, February 13th at 8:00 am. Attendees will hear from four internationally recognized leaders in the office design industry on how they are building the workplace of the future, today. Learn how they are creating efficient, safe and smart spaces, and how the workplace is about more than just function. The panelists will debate how they see the workplace evolving and discuss what factors must be considered to meet the new demands and expectations of their clients. Topics will include how to marry design and space requirements; changes in the workforce that influence their decisions; the continued growing needs of a modern business and its employees; and whether function has to override style. The moderator is Chuck We, director of leasing with Oxford Properties Group, and panelists include Aliki Gladwin, principal, Aliki Gladwin; Teresa Miller, workplace specialist, Perkins+Will; Joe Pettipas, senior vice president | principal, HOK Vancouver; and Susan Steeves, principal, SSDG. These two complimentary events promise to open your eyes to what tomorrow holds for workplace design and will help you become a leader in your industry. On Thursday, February 14th, BUILDEX is pleased to host Architecture Day presented by the Architectural Institute of BC (AIBC). Architecture Day consists of four 90-minute seminars and a gallery exhibit on the seminar level of the Convention Centre. Other sessions include IDP 2.0: Collaborative Design for the 21st Century, Vernacular Architecture: Not So Special A Closer Look at Regional Architecture and the Architectural Keynote Panel: Living Affordably in Greater Vancouver.
