The overarching theme for our first annual
trends issue is personalized space. Whether you
ditch your formal living room or plant veggies
in a rusted steel planter, the emphasis is on individual style. This month's cover features a French
provincial theme turned on its head as envisioned
by BC Home & Garden art director Susan MintonGreen with help from the design team at A Good
Chick to Know and assistant art director Felice
Bisby. A Louis chair covered in vibrant, patterned
fabric alongside bolts of textiles and a baby-blue
pouf chair nails the top home trends as identified by our assistant editor, Kristen Hilderman.

our top garden ideas for the year as seen by contributing writer Chrystal Palaty.
A fond farewell
As BC Home & Garden redirects its focus as a
home and garden lifestyle magazine, gardening
editor Carol Pope and award-winning columnist
and expert gardener Des Kennedy say goodbye
in this issue. Carol Pope is the founding editor
of GardenWise magazine and former editorial
director at Canada Wide Media, the publisher of
this magazine. You will see her from time to time
on these pages as she continues to write about
her favourite topics: sustainable gardening and
edibles. Carol plans to continue her work as a
book editor. She recently served as co-editor of
BC Home & Garden contributor Carolyn Herriot's
book The Zero-Mile Diet Cookbook. Des Kennedy,
who makes his home on Denman Island, remains
a prolific garden writer. Des's home and garden
will be part of the upcoming Denman Island
Home and Garden Tour June 15 and 16, 2013.
He invites everyone to come join him on tour:
