simple until the couple realized they were also the proud owners of two kitchens, two front doors and two wide-open loft spaces that would require careful
planning to rearrange in a livable manner.
Ask the experts
Through a stroke of luck, the couple was able to enlist the help of Berlin-based
architect David Saik who worked with the original homeowner on the space
and happened to be in Vancouver for another project. Leigh loved the look,
feel and design of the loft when he moved in and was hopeful that, by using
the original architect, they could retain this in the new space.
While the Walkers knew what they wanted, they were unsure of where to
place everything in this apartment without rooms. "We hired David to come
up with the plan and realized our ideas were completely nonsense," says Leigh.
Saik's main vision was to maintain a sense of space and scale consistent
with the concept of loft living. He accomplished this through an open design
