Brokers (ACHQ) had been formed. Led by
industry veteran Frédéric Houle as president,
the nine-member board also includes
vice-president Diane Garneau and five experi-
enced mortgage brokers serving as directors,
as well as two lender representatives.
e fledgling association aims to become
the united voice of Quebec's 1,200 mortgage
brokers. Utilizing its ties to CMBA, the
new group has ambitious goals that include
educating the public as well as its traditional
industry partners about the benefits of working
with a mortgage broker.
Marie-Chantal Roy is ACHQ's director
of interprovincial relations and partner
relations and the Quebec representative on
the CMBA board. Aer a 28-year career in
banking, she became a mortgage broker with
Hypotheca Agence Hypothécaire six years

ast February, a group of about
15 Quebec mortgage professionals
gathered at a Laval restaurant.
It was a working lunch. ey
met to discuss the establishment
of a provincial association for mortgage
brokers and the possibility of linking it with
national umbrella for provincial mortgage
broker associations, the Canadian Mortgage
Brokers Association (CMBA).
By the time coffee was served, they had
unanimously agreed to proceed.
Shortly aerwards, the board of directors
