WILL WOMEN LOSE OUT AGAIN? But it's taking too long. Help change the stereotype. Engineering is a highly rewarding, impactful profession focused on improving the lives of people and the environment, and will be key to solving this century's challenges: climate change, clean water, reducing pollution and more. We need parents, teachers and key influencers to encourage the younger generation of women to lead in shaping and improving our world. Let's realize our greatest potential: women.engineering.ubc.ca Outreach and exposure to the opportunities in the field is helping increase the number of women at UBC without changing admission requirements. So the gender pay gap will only get worse, if women aren't encouraged to also pursue highly paid careers. Engineering is one of the highest paid university degrees, yet a lot of women don't consider exploring this career option. Dissuaded by narrow stereotypes about the profession, many women aren't aware of all the opportunities to improve lives and really make a difference. Yet, women have the ability to excel in engineering, and perform as well as men (if not slightly better on average at UBC).
