T here are many reasons to join the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) in 2019 or to renew your existing membership. Under new leadership this year, the organi- zation has developed many new benefits and upgraded programs to serve members better and enhance the value of membership. The annual renewal cycle for 2019 has begun, and members are encouraged to renew before December 31, 2018, to receive a special offer – a $75 credit toward RAIC continuing education. Recently, the RAIC has expanded its member benefits package. In October, the RAIC launched a professional liability insurance program launched in partnership with BMS Canada Risk Services Ltd., tailored specifically to the needs of architects. The members- only program also provides access to Commercial General Liability, Office Package (CGL, Property/Content, Business Interruption, Crime), Cyber Security and Privacy Liability, and Employment Practices Liability. Other insurance offerings were also added to the membership perks that include home, auto, and pet coverage, through The Personal. Membership with the RAIC also supports advocacy activities, such as procurement reform, fair fees and contracts, qualifica- tions-based selection, and sustainability issues. The RAIC is known as the national architectural advocacy and professional practice support body in Canada, but it is also a leading provider of high- quality and engaging continuing education opportunities. In 2019, the RAIC is embarking on an ambitious continuing education program with new offerings such as weekly webinars, workshops, classroom courses, live-streamed courses, online rapid e-learning modules, and online credit-based courses. The webi- nar-based learning opportunities will be organized into monthly, thematic mini-series, comprised of multiple, related webinars in both English and French. Different subject matter experts will pres- ent each of these weekly webinars. The RAIC will continue with its popular Project Management for Architects courses in 2019 and will offer them in Fredericton, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Victoria, and Vancouver. These courses, taught by the RAIC's director of practice support Don Adriel, MRAIC, will provide project management knowledge in the context of architectural practice as well as prepare participants for the Project Management Institute's certification exam. The annual Festival of Architecture, taking place in Toronto from October 26 to November 2, 2019, will also be an excellent opportu- nity to accumulate a significant number of continuing education credits in a short time span, and from leading experts. Members save money on RAIC continuing education with special pricing and discounts. Membership brings other savings as well. A new partnership with GoodLife Fitness offers members up to 40 percent off memberships at clubs across Canada. Members also receive a free subscription to magazines including Award magazine, as well as special pricing in the RAIC's online store, with access to contract documents, the RAIC's practice builder series. Members get 50 percent off the purchase of CCDC documents and authorization seals. The RAIC's 2019 awards program is now in full swing, and mem- bers receive special pricing on their entries. January 17, 2019, is the deadline for submitting for the RAIC's Architectural Firm Award, Emerging Architectural Practice Award, Young Architect Award, Prix du XXe Siècle, and the RAIC Gold Medal. January 24, 2019, is the deadline for submitting to the RAIC Awards of Excellence: Advocate for Architecture, Green Building, Innovation in Architecture, Allied Arts Medal, and the President's Award for Media in Architecture. For new members, the RAIC offers an introductory discount on the first year of membership. Architects, interns, graduates, fac- ulty, and foreign-trained individuals are eligible for membership. A new corporate affiliate program is now available giving allied orga- nizations, firms, and suppliers the opportunity to partner with the RAIC and to spread their message to the architecture community. Affiliates can sponsor RAIC events, participate in the trade show at the Festival of Architecture, and receive visibility on the RAIC web- site and social media channels. Full members of the RAIC receive the MRAIC post-nominal, a sign of professionalism recognized across Canada and abroad. They also have a say in RAIC's leadership, with voting rights in elections for the regional directors of the board. A For more information about membership, contact membership@raic.org or 613-422-3617. Visit www.raic.org/whyjoin for a full list of membership benefits and to access an application form. Looking Ahead To 2019 Under new leadership this year, the organization has developed many new benefits and upgraded programs to serve members better and enhance the value of membership. " "
