OCTOBER 2018 | 13 PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY STRUCTURAL PANELS INC. Insulation While changes of the magnitude of the new HFO blowing agents are far and few between, Ontario- based Structural Panels Inc. is enjoying supplying product to a significantly different client than could be considered the norm: cannabis producers. With the Justin Trudeau government making rec- reational marijuana legal in August, a huge number of producers have been busy buying old warehouses across Canada and turning them into cultivation facilities. "The renovation that goes into these ware- houses is extensive because the crops have to be well maintained and the strains have to be isolated from one another," says Lee Rogers, Structural Panels busi- ness development manager. "The panels we provide are a great help because they can contribute to the creation of laboratory-style air locks within the reno- vated warehouses. Our panels are also easy to clean, don't attract pests/rodents, and help prevent strain cross-contamination." Rogers' company is most famously a source for the Isowall insulated metal building panel that consists of a rigid expanded polystyrene foam core with lami- nated sheet steel permanently bonded to both sides. A finished Isowall building, ceiling, or partition wall provides a strong and reliable thermal performance system that can be installed quickly and easily by almost anyone. Structural Panels is also a source for Rockwall, an insulated metal building panel that consists of a unique Rockwool mineral fibre core called Conrock, with laminated sheet steel permanently bonded to both sides. Once these panels have been installed according to the specific certification guidelines, the assembly provides up to three hours of fire resis- tance with a six-inch core thickness. Rogers cites several issues bubbling in 2018 that his company and services can address. "The first is that cap and trade is more prevalent than ever in this country, and the bottom line is that landlords don't want to spend excess in keeping rooms warm and tenants don't want the high energy bills either. Our insulated panels can certainly improve energy effi- ciency and reduce costs." Installation of Isowall insulated metal building panels.
