16 | OCTOBER 2018 Insulation Durabond Products Limited, a leading devel- oper and manufacturer of specialized architectural wall coatings, exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS), and restoration products, provides the Durex Equalite pressure equalized, dual barrier, non-com- bustible, drained EIFS system for the commercial, institutional, and high-rise sectors. This system, which has been independently tested, consists of a membrane air/vapour barrier, mineral wool insulation, insulation adhesive and mechanical fasteners, glass fibre reinforcing mesh, continu- ous vent strips, base coats, and a finish texture coat that can be selected from any one of the available Durex Architectural Coatings. It is suitable for use over a wide range of structurally sound substrates and recommended in buildings that require pressure equalized cladding, with its advantages (apart for non-combustion and pressure equalization) includ- ing continuous venting at floor lines and horizontal terminations; simple interfacing with other pressure equalized cladding systems; and positive drainage due to the vertical orientation of the fibres in the rigid insulation. Frederic Deom, insulation product manager for Soprema, points out that advances in insulation development have over the years caused his com- pany to expand from being strictly a roofing and roof waterproofing specialist to one that supplies strong and versatile extruded polystyrene insulation under the Sopra-XPS brand. Sopra-XPS is a rigid thermal insulating board with shiplap or squared edges on its four sides; it is com- posed of closed-cell foam and mainly used as thermal insulation for foundation systems, inverted roofs (including roof terraces and green roofs) and park- ing lots made with Soprema products. Deom says, "We now offer the product for wall applications, and in September we unveiled a new production plant in Sherbrooke, Quebec, that will allow us to keep up with the demand for this extremely versatile product." Also, in addition to Sopra-XPS, Soprema now sup- plies different insulation technologies, including polyisocyanurate, spray foam, and cellulose. As for future trends in the insulation field, The Freedonia Group forecasts that foamed plastic insu- lation demand will rise faster than the average, at 6.8 percent per annum due to its versatility. This will be followed by fibreglass insulation, and at the lowest end of the growth scale is mineral wool insulation, whose projected loss of market share is due to it being more expensive to produce than other types of insulation.
